The story
Most noise apps play a recording on a loop. Listen long enough and you hear it: a click, a gap, the same whoosh coming round again. Others stop when the phone locks, play ads in the middle of the night, or cut off after an hour unless you pay.
Brown Noise was built to fix that. Before writing any code, we read over a thousand reviews of other noise apps and listed the complaints that kept coming up. Then we built the app around them. Brown Noise makes its sound live on the phone, so it never loops and never clicks. It keeps playing with the screen locked. It has no ads and no account, and every color is free all night.
Brown Noise is made by Gold Standard Web, a small independent developer. It launched on Google Play on October 7, 2026. The iPhone app is coming soon.

What makes it different
- Made live, never a recording. The app works out each slice of sound just before you hear it, so there's no loop, click or gap.
- Level-matched colors. Brown, pink, green and white all play at the same loudness, so switching never jumps. Pro blends them on four faders.
- Free all night. No one-hour limit, which is the most-hated design in this category.
- No ads, no account, no data collected.
- A free web player at /listen, using the same math as the app.

A note on health claims
Please don't describe Brown Noise as a treatment for any condition. We make no medical claims. Research on noise and sleep is still early, and we cover it honestly on our research page. What we stand behind: it makes steady sound live, it never loops or clicks, it covers noise, and it has no ads.
